ADULT DEVELOPMENT CENTERS help clients make individual choices about how and where they live, work, and socialize. Their plans frequently emphasize increased independence and productivity. You will see many OPARC clients from the Adult Development Centers in the community ญญ folding pizza boxes (and doing other kinds of work), cashing checks and taking advantage of leisure activities.
The DIVERSIFIED INDUSTRIES program helps individuals with vocational and developmental disabilities learn work skills in an industrial setting. Companies with assembly, packaging and similar jobs utilize OPARC's 18,000 square foot facility and the skills of our clients and staff to produce high quality work at a competitive price. Also under the auspices of Diversified Industries ("DI"), clients work in small groups in the community ("enclaves"), employed by organizations and individuals who recognize the "abilities" of people with disabilities. Workers are supervised and trained by OPARC "job coaches" on a full-time basis. Some clients also work in individual placements, employed by a variety of companies. SUMMIT SERVICES, operating primarily in a community-based environment, provides specialized support and training to people with developmental and behavioral challenges. Goals of the program include learning new social skills, reducing behavioral incidents and developing the capacity to work in and enjoy the local community. Desired outcomes include increased self-respect, increased ability to interact with other people in an effective manner, and transition to other programs in which less intensive support is required. Summit Services also utilizes a Resource Center building located in Upland. PASSPORT SENIOR SERVICES helps senior citizens with disabilities (ages 50 and up) access community events and activities on a regular basis. In-home enrichment activities are also offered. Passport operates seven days a week and includes evening hours. DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS? OPARC operates Adult Development Centers at four different locations: two in Montclair and one each in Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga. One of the locations in Montclair, on Monte Vista Avenue, specializes in helping clients with severe physical disabilities; they require more medical attention than most other clients.
