Press Release:

Grant helps OPARC continue to support, employ, and transform the lives of adults with disabilities

Montclair-based nonprofit OPARC announced it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Bank of America as part of the bank’s focus on workforce development. OPARC provides life-enhancing services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The generous grant supports OPARC staff to provide participants with hands-on job coaching, training, and job placement. The funding will also bolster OPARC’s ability to identify more job and volunteer opportunities in the community through its Workforce Development and Integrated Employment Programs.

Bank of America is lending, investing and giving to local communities to advance local economies and create positive change. Providing support to organizations like OPARC that are providing essential services and programs is just one of the ways Bank of America is helping to improve the quality of life in local communities. They value all that OPARC is doing to support adults with disabilities, especially during these unprecedented times.

Message from Andrea Erickson, OPARC President/CEO

“This grant comes at a critical time when employment for adults with disabilities will be harder to obtain once the economy gets up and running again. Thanks to Bank of America, I am particularly excited by the opportunity to develop even more worthwhile partnerships with area businesses and to train and equip participants to find their ideal job and perform well in that field with the support of job coaches, a win-win for all. Studies prove that work gives individuals a sense of purpose and self-worth.”

Message from Al Arguello, Bank of America Market President

“Bank of America’s purpose is to help make financial lives better, and an important way we do this is by providing philanthropic capital to nonprofits like OPARC which provides job skills training and placement for adults with intellectual or physical disabilities. By helping OPARC empower more of these hard working and dedicated men and women, it helps our community and the local economy.”

OPARC, a non-profit based in Montclair since 1950, has a mission to support, employ, and transform the lives of people with disabilities. OPARC serves more than 800 developmentally disabled adults in Southern California by offering critical employment and developmental programs. They are known for remarkable success in finding jobs for participants and ensuring success through ongoing training, guidance, and supervision.

While OPARC is one of the largest vendors under contract with the San Gabriel and Pomona Regional Centers, it cannot provide its enhanced day program and employment services without funding support from wonderful partners such as Bank of America.
