At Oparc, our philosophy is rooted in the belief that every person deserves to live a life guided by choice, dignity, and meaningful connection. We recognize each individual as the expert of their own life and believe support should honor personal goals, preferences, and pace. Our role is not to direct lives, but to listen, encourage, and partner with people as they define what matters most to them and how they want to grow.
This philosophy comes to life through individualized planning, community involvement, and opportunities to contribute through volunteering. We focus on building real connections, supporting individuals as they participate in everyday community life, share their talents, and make meaningful contributions. Through inclusion, engagement, and service, we help create experiences where people feel valued, capable, and connected, while also shaping communities that are more welcoming and inclusive for everyone.

Person-centered planning is a philosophy that recognizes each individual as the expert of their own life. It means that the person decides what matters to them, and the support around them is built to honor those choices.
At Oparc, every participant sets their own goals and defines what progress looks like for them. Our role is to be advisors, mentors, and partners in that journey. We offer guidance and encouragement while honoring each person’s voice, preferences, and pace.
This approach shapes every part of our programs. Daily activities are flexible and tailored to each participant’s interests, abilities, and aspirations. Instead of fitting people into a pre-set schedule, we shape support around the life they want to build. Person-centered planning is woven into how we listen, how we teach, how we encourage growth, and how we celebrate success.
Community involvement is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a place where they are known, welcomed, and valued. People thrive when they are part of everyday life in their neighborhoods. Being seen, connected, and included builds confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging.
When participants are active in their communities, the impact flows both ways. They share their talents, energy, and perspective, and the community becomes more inclusive, compassionate, and aware of the value of people who may not look, act, or sound like them. Local businesses, civic groups, and service organizations gain dedicated partners and meaningful relationships that enrich their culture.
Oparc helps create these connections by supporting participants as they explore new places, meet new people, and build relationships outside of program walls. Inclusion is not a buzzword for us. It is a lived experience. When participants are visible and engaged in their community, they are not only growing personally, they are shaping a more welcoming world for everyone.

Volunteering gives participants the opportunity to contribute to their community in meaningful ways. It is a pathway to purpose, pride, and contribution. When individuals give their time and effort in service to others, they experience themselves as capable, valued, and needed. They make a difference in the lives of others.
Through volunteer opportunities, participants build skills, strengthen relationships, and gain real-world experience that supports both personal growth and employment goals. Service also builds visibility and helps break down the stigma that people with disabilities are not capable. It shows others what participants can do when given the chance to contribute.
By contributing through volunteer work, participants help shape communities that are more connected and compassionate, where their abilities are recognized and their value is seen. Volunteering becomes a way to take part in civic life and be viewed as a full member of the community.
