Natalie’s Journey: From Quiet Beginnings to Confident Leader

← BACK TO STORIES

When Natalie joined Oparc in February 2022, her biggest challenge was building social skills. She was soft-spoken, reserved, and found it difficult to connect with peers and staff. But Natalie had big dreams! She wanted to improve her social and vocational skills, pursue college, and eventually find employment.

With consistent encouragement and mentoring from Oparc staff, Natalie has blossomed. She now volunteers at Rebecca’s Garden, participates in community activities, and joined the Tailored Day Service Program in May 2024. She takes initiative to greet others, engages in conversations, and even enjoys karaoke and dancing with friends. “I feel like Harry Potter, the chosen one,” she shared, because others now look to her for input and leadership.

In July 2025, Natalie achieved a major milestone: she began a paid internship at Juice It Up through Oparc’s Paid Internship Program. She proudly prepares smoothies, helps customers, and is already showing natural customer service skills. Her next goal is to secure more hours and responsibilities while working toward taking public transportation independently.

Behind the scenes, Oparc staff and Job Coach Seth have been by her side by supporting her travel training on bus routes and helping her complete her food handler’s certification.

Way to go, Natalie! Your hard work and determination inspire us all, we couldn’t be prouder.
